Study Abroad

Information on the department's Erasmus programmes and other possibilities to go or study abroad.

ERASMUS APPLICATION Deadline (for WS 2017/18, SS 2018 as well as the whole academic year 2017/18): 15th of Feb 2017.

Updating of these pages may take until the end of January 2017, since the exact number of places has to be reconfirmed every winter.

We suggest that you start preparing your application as soon as possible; in particular, check the various universities (their range of courses, semester dates etc.) for the most suitable places relating to the study programme you are following, and prepare your motivation letter. However, you should probably wait until January before handing in your application, and in the meantime check these pages occasionally for new information.

  • UPDATES announces topical study abroad events, activities and so on.
  • Erasmus Programme provides detailed information on the Erasmus exchange.
  • Coordinators & university profiles lists all partner universities and departmental contact persons (coordinators). There are also short descriptions of these universities and quicklinks. See ppt files
  • Recognition of courses (Anerkennung) tells you how to go about your formal course recognition after your return
  • General info points out additional possibilities such as language teacher assistantships, research scholarships etc. (not necessarily administrated by the department)

You should also have a look at the University of Vienna's Non-EU-exchange programmes, which are coordinated centrally and include places in the USA, in Canada and Australia. Two universities (totalling 3 places) - Maryland and Toronto - are reserved for students of English. The application deadline for the Non-EU-exchange programme is even earlier than for Erasmus: mid-November for the following academic year!
