Keynote lecture at Alte Kapelle
(24 September)

The entrance to the venue Alte Kapelle is situated between courtyards/Hof 1 and 2 on the Campus.

Main conference venue:
Helene-Richter-Saal (HRS)
(25-26 September)

The Helene-Richter-Saal is located directly at our

Department of English and American Studies
University of Vienna,
Campus AAKH, Hof 8.3
Spitalgasse 2, 1090 Wien

You will find Helene-Richter-Saal on the ground floor.

Our department is called "Institut für Anglistik und Amerikanistik" in German; AAKH is short for "Altes Allgemeines Krankenhaus", in case you were wondering; and "Hof" means courtyard in German.

Should you arrive at Spitalgasse, you are about to enter courtyard/Hof 1 (map); if you enter from Garnisongasse (which is the shortest route to our Department) you are in courtyard/Hof 9 (in this case, just proceed to the next courtyard, which is no. 8). Once inside campus walls, it will help to watch out for blue signposts with maps on them (the university's official direction signs).

Conference warming at event location "Omar" (24 September)

After the keynote by Sharon Marcus we will meet at nearby event location "Omar" for our conference warming (Lange Gasse 69, 1080 Vienna).

(25 September)

The conference dinner will take place at Heurigen restaurant "10er Marie" in the sixteenth district (Ottakringer Straße 222-224, 1160 Vienna). It can be reached easily by boarding tram line 44 at stop "Lange Gasse" near courtyard 1 (see map) and travelling for ca 15 min to stop "Johannes-Krawarik-Gasse".

"10er Marie" is the oldest Viennese Heurigen, founded in 1740 and still situated in the original building.

Film screening at "Votivkino" (26 September)

After the panel discussion on 26 September we will walk to nearby Votivkino (Währinger Straße 12, 1090 Vienna) for the screening of She Said (2022, directed by Maria Schrader). The screening starts at 8 pm (duration: 129 min).

Transport

Getting around in Vienna

In Vienna you can use buses, trams and the S-Bahn (suburban train). A single ticket will cost you €2.40, a "48 hours Vienna"/"48 Stunden Wien" ticket €14.10, and a "72 hours Vienna"/"72 Stunden Wien" ticket €17.10. You can purchase these Wiener Linien tickets at the airport, at any metro-station, at a Trafik (kiosk for newspapers and tobacco), via the smartphone app (see below) but not on board of buses or underground trains. You will be able to buy single tickets in trams, but most ticket machines there are coin-based, so make sure you have some change.

There are also two offers of sightseeing packages including transport: the "EASY CityPass WIEN 48 hours" (€21.90) / "EASY CityPass WIEN 72 hours" (€26.90); and, for a slightly larger sum (€25.00 for 48 hours / €29.00 for 72 hours) the "Vienna City Card" from Tourist Info Vienna. Both CityPass and City Card offer reductions on a lot of attractions and are best bought online before your trip. To help you decide which of them fits your needs best, find more information here:
