On a personal note ...
What do you like most about your job?
I like the fact that the teaching is so varied: different students in each group (although it’s great to recognize familiar faces) and courses in different parts of the programme (teacher education, English Language Competence, linguistics).
What's the number one piece of advice you wish you had been given as a student?
I sometimes wonder what it would have been like not to have studied French and German, but music (my third A level) was something that I didn’t want to pursue professionally, and I didn’t think about studying anything else.
Which English word/phrase/grammar point do you especially like to teach to your students?
Whatever they need most at any one particular point in time. The “juicier” the better.
What’s your favo(u)rite line from a song or your favo(u)rite saying?
I tend to listen to music without words. :-) But how about “I’ve just updated moodle.” for my favourite saying???
When you are not at the department, where do you like to hang out in Vienna?
The campus isn’t that bad! (Although that’s not the main reason why I spend rather a lot of time at the university during the semester.) At the moment I’m working my way through “111 places in Vienna that you have to see”, so whatever’s next on the list.
What's the scariest thing you've ever done in your life?
Trying out the “flying fox” zipline at the Black Sheep Inn Ecolodge near Chugchilan, Ecuador.
