ReaLiTea stands for Research Literacy of Teachers. The ReaLiTea project is dedicated to promoting pre-service language teachers' set of research and critical reading skills. The initiative focuses on connecting theoretical knowledge with practical application, addressing the needs of underserved students and enhancing critical literacy skills in teacher education as well as in foreign and second language instruction.
After our first transnational meeting and at TU Dortmund last year in March, we gathered for our second transnational meeting at the Social Sciences University Ankara (ASBU) to present our work in progress and discuss further steps. Our meeting took place in hybrid mode: Caro Blume and Raùl García (PH Heidelberg), Kenan Dikilitaş (University of Bergen), Julia Hüttner and Julia Pittenauer (University of Vienna), Achilleas Kostoulas and Eleni Motsiou (University of Thessaly) and Yela Schauwecker (University of Stuttgart) attended the meeting in-person, while Emma Marsden and Louise Caruso (University of York), Christina Ringel (TU Dortmund) and Saskia Schabio (University of Stuttgart) very actively joined us online via Zoom.
During our two-day meeting, we were highly productive: A lively discussion of our template for our teaching modules for developing pre-service teachers' research literacy was followed by an analysis of the digital platform HumHub to establish a virtual community of practice and start teachers' conversations about research they perceive as relevant to their classroom practices. We also talked about ways of engaging pre-service teachers in self-study to develop their critical reading skills, so they can actively take part in the academic discourse community. In addition to constructive criticism and helpful feedback, the meeting was continuously fuelled by wonderful Turkish delights, constant flow of tea and coffee, as well as delicious national cuisine.
We are well on track!
