VOICE CLARIAH

 

Members of our group are working together with researchers from the Austrian Centre of Digital Humanities and Cultural Heritage (ACDH-CH) at the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW) on VOICE CLARIAH. The aim of this project is to ensure the long-term availability of the Vienna-Oxford International Corpus of English (VOICE) by integrating VOICE into CLARIAH-AT infrastructure and to develop a new front-end interface for VOICE Online.

Habilitation & change of institution

 

In October 2020, Marie-Luise Pitzl successfully presented and defended her Habilitationschrift Spoken interaction and emergent linguistic practices: English as a lingua franca and Transient International Groups” and was awarded the Venia docendi for English linguistics by the University of Vienna. In September 2020, Marie-Luise changed institutions and became a member of the ACDH-CH at the Austrian Academy of Sciences where she holds a position as Elise-Richter-Research Fellow and is principal investigator of the ELF in TIGs and the VOICE CLARIAH project.

From 27th June to 2nd July 2021 the 17th International Pragmatics Conference will be held in Winterthur, Switzerland.

ÖLT 2021 (Austrian Linguistics Conference)

"Challenging linguistic concepts - a/in dialogue with ELF"

Members of our research group have submitted a workshop proposal to the 46th Österreichische Linguistik-Tagung (ÖLT) in Vienna.

More information on the 46th ÖLT will supposedly be made available in early spring.

ELF 13

From 9th -12th July 2021, the National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), in Tainan City, Taiwan, will host the 13th International Conference of English as a Lingua Franca - Let's go ELF 2021: Expanding the Orientations. Follow the link for more information. 


AILA 2021, 15th - 20th August

Some members of our research group have organized a symposium at the AILA 2021 conference in Groningen, the Netherlands, for Thursday, 19th Aug, 14:30-18:00.

Keynote speakers at TIES conference

Barbara Seidlhofer and Henry Widdowson spoke at the international conference Translation, Inclusivity, and Educational Settings  (TIES)via online attendance. The conference was hosted by Università degli Studi di Napli "L'orientale' (Italy) and took place from 27th - 29th February 2020.

In September 2020, Marie-Luise changed institutions and became a member of the Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities and Cultural Heritage (ACDH-CH) at the Austrian Academy of Sciences. There she holds a position as Elise-Richter-Research Fellow and is principal investigator of the ELF in TIGs and the VOICE CLARIAH project.

Invited speaker at University Regensburg

Marie-Luise Pitzl was invited as a guest speaker at the University Regensburg, Germany. During her stay from 28-29 January 2020 she presented on "Creativity in spoken ELF interactions: Descriptive findings and future directions".

ENRICH multiplier event

Barbara Seidlhofer and Henry Widdowson had been invited to speak at the ENRICH multiplier event entitled “Developing ELF-aware teacher competences through the ENRICH Teacher Development Project” on 12th September 2020.
While sharing their ideas on ELF-aware teacher competences in today’s multilingual world, they especially gave reflective comments on 'Continuous Professional Development' as part of the ENRICH project.
